8 Reasons to Move to Central PA if you love the Outdoors

Are you an outdoor enthusiast looking for a new place to live? Look no further than Central Pennsylvania. From bodies of water to a dynamic portion of the Appalachian Trail, this piece of Pennsylvania has plenty to do for the lover of the outdoors.

The Appalachian Trail

The A.T. in Pennsylvania is a draw for outdoor lovers who want to experience the famous trail on the east coast. Central PA is the halfway point for those hiking the entire trail and is also the home of the A.T. Museum in Pine Grove State Park.

Fun fact: Pennsylvania’s nickname to hikers is “Rocksylvania.”

The Susquehanna River

The Susquehanna River flows from upstate New York, through Pennsylvania, to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. This beautiful river is attractive to locals who enjoy boating, kayaking, tubing, water skiing, or just having a picnic by the water. The Susquehanna River Valley offers numerous museums, breweries, wineries, and restaurants to enjoy after an active day on the river.

State Parks

Adams County is surrounded by state parks and forests. Caledonia State Park is a beautiful piece of land with opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting, picnicking & camping. Similar options include Michaux State Forest, Codorus State Park, and Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Whether you are looking for some solitude in nature or the chance for a stress-free family day outside, there are always options.

Raystown Lake

This 8,300-acre lake is considered one of the top destinations for Central Pennsylvania. The largest lake entirely in PA, people travel to tent camp, rent cabins, hike new trails, and enjoy time with friends and family. It’s also a popular spot for eagle-watching as well as observing waterfowl.

Hersheypark

While this isn’t necessarily an activity for an “outdoor enthusiast,” it is a well-loved outdoor amusement park in Hershey, PA. Milton S. Hershey originally developed the theme park as a place of rest and relaxation for the employees of the Hershey Chocolate Company. Today, it is one of the top attractions for all visiting Pennsylvania.

Bonus: Many schools in Adams County take their kids to Hersheypark for field trips!

Regardless if you are an avid nature lover or love the chance to get outside every once in a while, Central Pennsylvania is a great place to call home. Adams County offers its own set of outdoor activities while being surrounded by the exciting places the rest of the state has to share. So if a new home purchase is in your future, let’s talk!
