Holidays in a New Home

November 2, 2022

As the holiday season quickly approaches, settling into a new home with new routines can feel overwhelming. However, bringing feelings of comfort and joy to a new home may be easier than we think.

Take your time: Whether you moved 10 miles or 1,000 miles from your previous home, there is no rush to get everything settled before the holiday season begins. There is plenty to do and plenty of time to get it done. However, the holidays are much more enjoyable if we can sit back and take some much-needed rest.

Enjoy the small things: It can be easy to get wrapped up in who’s making what for holiday dinner and how many different events are piling up on the calendar. But after a move, it’s important just to enjoy the small things, such as finally putting away the coffee mugs or going through the old photos that have been stored away in a box. These small moments can put the holidays back into perspective and allow us to focus on what matters most!

Make a new tradition: Keeping up with old traditions is great, but consider adding something new this year to make the first holiday in your new home even more special! Creating new memories will help ease any feelings of uncertainty or sadness after moving.

Give gratitude: Moving can be so exciting yet draining on our time and energy. One of the best things we can do is to take a step back and just appreciate the home we’ve recently moved into. No doubt it has met at least some of your family’s needs, so recognizing and feeling thankful for it can significantly reduce stress during the busy holiday season.
